Like a lot of things about Sylvia the kitchen ceiling light does't work.. More on that later.. The dining room light was not the greatest either.. just one of those circular lights with two bulbs and a glass shade. Well actually only one bulb worked. So as we started the kitchen conversion of pitch and patch to country shabby chic it made sense to change out the light.
There are a lot of lights to choose from and some of them were way beyond the budget. Also we had to consider where the light hung, the weight of the fixture and how much wiring conversion it would need.
So while on a shopping trip to Home Depot I came across a vintage nickle finished pendant light that fit the bill
This light had all the charm of a classic vintage fixture with it's spun metal shade and adjustable pendant. When finished off against the aged tin look ceiling and a classic vintage plaster ring it is the perfect dining room light for Silva's shabby chic kitchen.
Installing it was going to be a breeze... except the 40 plus year old box was stubborn and took a lot more patience and determination then we had planned for.
Sue was determined and had a bit more of a stubborn streak in her then the wiring so after about an hour the new light was finally in..We'll get you another shot of this once the ceiling tin and plaster ring is installed.
The other addition to the kitchen came in the form of a totally rehabbed "junk" table that we found left behind holding one of the Florida room doors shut.. It was old.. had been outside for a long time and had no finish on the top and peeling legs. I was going to throw it on the junk pile but Sue wanted to save it and refinish it.. Okay I told her to give it a try..
Here the table can be see holding the door closed buried in the junk the previous owners left behind
Well here's the rehabbed table that came back to me a few weeks later!!! OMG what a beauty!!
We were also able to find some good used wood chairs to match it perfectly!! WOW, Sue what a job on this table!!!
Sylvia's kitchen is coming along.. next we'll show you a storage solution that not only adds function but a touch of farmhouse flair as well.. AND IT WAS FREE.....
